Purpose of Position

NKU seeks to fill a twelve-month faculty position to serve as Associate Director of the Center for Integrative Natural Science and Mathematics (CINSAM). CINSAM is NKU’s science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) center and works with 6 departments (Biological Sciences; Chemistry; Computer Science; Mathematics & Statistics; Physics, Geology & Engineering Technology; and Teacher Education), across 3 colleges (Arts & Sciences, Education & Human Services and Informatics) and with a variety of community partners. Together, we promote enthusiasm, excellence, and equity in education at P-16 levels by advancing and integrating teaching, learning, and scholarship in the STEM disciplines.

CINSAM seeks an Associate Director who is committed to the full breadth of this mission and with strengths in assessing and promoting excellence in STEM programming, especially at the undergraduate level. This position is ideally for a tenure-track or tenured faculty rank, but depending on faculty background and credentials, may be considered as a professor of practice track faculty position. A Ph.D. or Ed.D. degree is preferred, but master’s level credentials will be considered for candidates with exceptional experience as described below.

Primary Responsibilities

• Work alongside the Director to serve as a representative with various on- and off-campus stakeholder groups
• Research and assess CINSAM programs
• Lead and assist with grant-writing efforts for STEM programming
• Lead collaborative STEM planning efforts for NKU
• Facilitate pedagogical advances in CINSAM departments
• Assist Director in management of CINSAM personnel and activities
• Possibly teaching some integrative science or education courses, likely those associated with STEM Scholars and/or STEM Ambassadors programs

Qualifications

• Experience in research and/or assessment of educational programs
• Strong STEM/STEM education background
• Track record of grant-writing
• Demonstrated skills and experience with evidence-based instructional practices
• Demonstrated commitments to:
o equity and inclusive excellence
o transdisciplinary perspective/integration across disciplines in scholarship, teaching, and leadership activities
• Preference for Ph.D./Ed.D. in education or STEM discipline, minimum of master’s degree in one of these disciplines
