Purpose of Position

Northern Kentucky University (NKU) seeks a dynamic academic leader committed to the development and success of undergraduate students to serve as the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Academic Affairs (VPUAA).

The next vice provost will join NKU at an exciting moment in its history, as the university’s evolution is measured by its visionary leadership, reaffirmed commitment to globally comprehensive undergraduate and graduate education, and the launch of a revolutionary Health Innovation Center (HIC) in 2018.

The new vice provost will play an integral role in the academic leadership of the university and its efforts to enhance the undergraduate educational experience.

Primary Responsibilities

The vice provost will report to the provost and partner closely with her as a member of her academic leadership team. She or he will closely collaborate with and support deans, the department chairs, academic advisors, academic support programs, and faculty to promote undergraduate student success, engagement, and satisfaction at NKU.

The VPUAA is responsible for a broad portfolio that includes oversight for: program curriculum and assessment, accreditation facilitation, the Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP), program review, First Year Experience, the Norse Advising Center, Learning Plus (developmental and learning assistance programs), Adult Learners Programs and Services, the NKU Testing Services, and student concerns and undergraduate academic issues.

NKU seeks as its next vice provost a collegial, experienced and responsive leader who will effectively manage an administrative enterprise, champion academic excellence, inspire and collaborate with the faculty, staff, deans and other senior leaders to represent NKU, its academic programs, and educational mission to internal and external constituencies.

She or he will seize the opportunity to engage and motivate deans, department chairs, faculty, staff, and students across the colleges to align their respective academic missions and help the university fulfill its bold aspirations.


A terminal degree and a demonstrated record of achievement that merits faculty appointment at NKU are required.

NKU will search nationally for candidates with an emphasis on administrators with proven effectiveness in the academic environment.
