Purpose of Position

Will promote IT accessibility as defined by the statutes and NKU policies by ensuring that new software is evaluated and necessary accommodations and/or remediation is negotiated prior to purchase, existing software is evaluated in a timely manner based on risk and that proper accommodation efforts are planned and carried through, consult with all IT departments and vendors to evaluate their products and recommend designs and strategies to improve accessibility of products and maintain appropriate audit trail for all evaluations. Specific duties include accessibility evaluation, developing and maintaining policies, conduct audits of accessibility, implement and oversee tools for monitoring website accessibility and evaluate technology for compliance.

Primary Responsibilities

Accessibility evaluation; testing and remediation of accessibility barriers. Write and edit policy to aid campus compliance. Perform regular accessibility audits and track metrics for assessing and measuring success in accessibility and support offerings. Keep current on accessibility regulations and compliance standards, best practices, and solutions to promote and enable accessibility. Work with developers to guide development of accessible user interfaces. Identify, implement, and oversee tools for monitoring web accessibility. Evaluate technologies in conjunction with procurement processes for compliance with accessibility standards.


Bachelor’s degree in a technical field with a minimum two years experience or an equivalent combination of directly relevant experience and education. Experience in creating and implementing new processes in an IT organization, experience training IT staff, understanding HTML, Javascript, CSS and XHTML, excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability and the drive to set and meet targets is required. Working knowledge of applicable federal and state laws, policies, regulations and standards is required.
