Purpose of Position

The College of Arts and Sciences invites applications for TWO Associate Dean positions.

The Associate Deans report to the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and work closely with the dean, the college budget officer, office staff, department chairpersons, and other university administrators.

This search is open to internal candidates only. This is a twelve-month, tenured position at the Associate or Full Professor rank.

Primary Responsibilities

Duties and responsibilities will be split between the two positions as best fits each of the individual’s strengths, skills, and interests.

These duties include (but are not limited to):
• Supporting college initiatives to promote excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service, including coordinating selection of faculty award and recognition programs and professional development recipients

• Collaborating with faculty, department chairpersons, college administrative staff, graduate school administrative staff, and other administrative staff both within and outside Academic Affairs on tasks and projects determined in consultation with the dean

• Providing support for curricular endeavors, including:
– curricular development
– program assessment
– program review
– accreditation efforts (both programmatic and SACS)
– A&S involvement in the Gen Ed program

• Providing leadership and support for planning and logistics with respect to college course scheduling and enrollment management

• Leading efforts for developing, collecting, analyzing, and evaluating information required for college and university reports and providing reports when requested

• Chairing college wide-committees

• Providing leadership for college inclusive excellence initiatives

• Coordinating ad hoc projects (e.g. convocations, chair development, program review, EAB training, etc.)

• Assisting in the interpretation of college and university policies and regulations and serving as an advisor to the dean

• Promoting the college through attendance at events

• Leading the college communication and marketing strategies

• Other duties as assigned


• Tenure in any of the college’s academic departments

• Ability to be successful in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment

• Demonstrated leadership experience

• Willingness and desire to learn new skills to support the work of the college

• An understanding of the university’s strategic plan and new budget model and ability to work across Arts and Sciences departments and centers to facilitate alignment and success

• A passion for student success

• A passion for supporting faculty and staff growth and excellence

• Experience in evidence-based decision making

• Strong communication and writing skills and the ability to work effectively with a range of internal and external constituencies

• Background working with SAP and strong computer skills

• Willingness and ability to make independent decisions in keeping with the mission and vision of the college
