Purpose of Position

Steely Library seeks an innovative, enthusiastic, self-motivated, technology-savvy, team player, with a strong service orientation for the position of Extended Collections Services Librarian. Steely Library strives toward boundary-free access to customer requested information. Reporting to the Head of Digital Resources & Access, this individual is a key player in providing access to an ever-increasing portion of the universe of information resources through advanced technologies, without concern for format or ownership.

Primary Responsibilities

1. Coordinates and provides direction for inter-library loan service.
2. Coordinates and provides direction for document delivery.
3. Coordinates activities in scholarly communications including administration of the campus institutional repository.
4. Manages, assesses services, and supervises personnel in the Extended Collections Services department
5. Monitors copyright and intellectual property compliance for inter-library loan.
6. Collaborates with the intellectual property librarian on complex copyright issues.
7. Plans, designs, develops, coordinates, and evaluates procedures and policies in consultation with faculty and staff to insure effective extended collection services.
8. Represents the library in resource sharing relationships.
9. Analyzes and generates statistical and narrative reports on extended collection services.
10. Publicizes and promotes extended collection services across campus.
11. Coordinates physical acquisitions of items.
12. Maintains current awareness of developments in extended collection services and assist in shaping the library’s future in this area.
13. Coordinates and provides direction for delivery of library resources to distance learners.
14. Participates in professional activities such as committee service, conference attendance, research and publication, continuing education and staff development.
15. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Candidates must possess a Master’s Degree in library science, information science, or a related field from an ALA-accredited institution. Library experience, particularly working in the areas of inter-library loan, document delivery, or distance learning preferred. Supervisory experience highly desirable. Individuals must be able to work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment. Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills with a strong customer service orientation are needed. Ability to establish and maintain collegial relationships. Ability to plan, organize, coordinate and facilitate projects with faculty and staff. Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office, ILLiad, library integrated systems, and course management systems.
Professional achievement, scholarly activity and professional service are required.
