Job Description

Mail Managers are an integral part of the University Housing Office. Mail Managers are responsible for residential student mail and should be able to process information quickly and pay close attention to detail. Mail Managers are also expected to maintain a clean work space. They should also be able to effectively communicate with other desk workers both in person and through written communication. Mail Managers articulate to residential students and other staff the values, philosophy, and polices of University Housing and the University. Mail Managers represent the Office of University Housing as a role model in all facets of University life.

While performing the duties of this job, a Mail Manager is regularly required to:

  • Effectively communicate and give directions
  • Positively represent University Housing
  • Sort and deliver all incoming mail by 5pm each day
  • Address student and parent mail concerns
  • Log incoming and outgoing packages
  • Act as a role model
  • Read documents such as policy and procedure manual
  • Prepare reports and correspondences
  • Use a Master key system for mail
  • Work without continuous supervision
  • Respond immediately to issues and concerns of residents
  • Perform check-ins and check-outs for residents
  • Work as an effective team member

Mail Managers must be able to move through three story buildings via stairs, able to climb and descend stairs while carrying supplies, materials and/or furniture as needed.

Primary Responsibilities

*Previous experience working and/or living in residential housing is preferred.
*Must be enrolled as a full time NKU student for the Fall 2017 term; Also, a 2.5 cumulative and semester GPA for undergraduate candidates; and a 3.5 cumulative and semester GPA for graduate candidates are required for returning students;

  • Must be able to perform light physical tasks;
  • Must be available to work up to 15 hours per week during the school year and up to 25 hours per week before school starts and during holiday periods;
  • Mail Managers may also be expected to work the desk Tuesday nights from 9pm – 10pm;
  • Mail Managers cannot teach nor have an internship;
  • Outside employment must be approved by supervisor(s). Only outside jobs limited to 10 hours a week or less will be considered for approval, but is not guaranteed;
  • Students must be in good standing with the University financially and behaviorally;
  • All interested students must fill out an online student employment application, attach a resume and cover letter.

Must be available to start immediately following the hiring process.

Ability to retain this position in the future is contingent ability to meet any updated expectations and responsibilities.

Any candidate who is offered this position will be required to undergo a pre-employment criminal background check as mandated by state law.
