Job Description

Desk Assistants are an integral part of the University Housing Office. They are employees who have direct and constant student contact. Their primary responsibility is to act as facilitators for the residential community. The Desk Assistants articulate to students the values, philosophy, and policies of University Housing and the University, and represent the University Housing Office as a role model in all facets of University life. The two basic roles of the Desk Assistants are being a Resource and an Administrator.

Primary Responsibilities

While performing the duties of this job, a Conference staff member is regularly required to:

• Effectively communicate and give directions
• Positively represent University Housing
• Act as a role model
• Read documents such as policy and procedure manuals
• Prepare reports and correspondences
• Use a Master key system
• Work without continuous supervision
• Respond immediately to issues and concerns of conferences
• Perform check-ins and check-outs for residents

Desk assistants must be able to move through a three story building via stairs, able to climb and descend stairs while carrying supplies, materials and/or furniture as needed.

Qualifications

Previous experience working and/or living in residential housing at NKU preferred. Must be a currently enrolled NKU student registered for classes for Fall term 2017. A 2.5 cumulative GPA and semester GPA for undergraduate candidates; 3.5 cumulative and semester GPA for graduate candidates is required for returning students. Must be able to perform light physical tasks. Must be able to attend bi-weekly Assistants meetings and work up to 15 hours during the school year and up to 25 hours before school starts and during holiday periods.

Desk Assistants will also be expected to be available Tuesday nights from 9pm-10pm. Desk Assistants cannot work more than 10 hours at an outside job without permission of supervisor. In addition, students must be in good standing with the University financially and behaviorally.

Desk Assistants are not permitted to take a course that meets later than 8:30 pm on Tuesdays. Must be available to start working no later than 8/1/17.
