During Fall and Spring semesters, report to regularly scheduled work hours each week (minimum 15 hours) between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday – Friday in blocks of three hours or more. During the academic year Maintenance Assistants may work up to 25 hours per week.

During winter break and summer sessions, Maintenance Assistants will work up to 35 hours per week.

Provide emergency maintenance on call coverage every day throughout the semester via an established weekly duty schedule. 9 pm-7:00 a.m.

Job Description

The Student Maintenance Assistant (SMA) is a part-time paraprofessional staff member in the Office of University and reports directly to the Maintenance/Housekeeping Superintendent and Maintenance/Housekeeping Supervisor. Maintenance experience is not required however it is strongly preferred.

The Student Maintenance Assistant is responsible for the upkeep of the physical environment in the residence facilities. By the nature of the position, the Maintenance Assistant needs to be skilled in a variety of maintenance and repair skills. The Student Maintenance Assistant will assist professional maintenance staff members with varies projects including: carpentry, plumbing, electricity, carpeting, HVAC operation, and general mechanical skills. In addition to maintenance projects, the Student Maintenance Assist will be responsible for completing housekeeping tasks and responsibilities delegated by the direct supervisor or designee from the Office of University Housing. Workshops will be arranged with various Physical Plant personnel to acquaint the Student Maintenance Assistant with the equipment and techniques necessary to do the job.

Primary Responsibilities

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • greeting & assisting visitors
  • delivery of documents & items to nearly all NKU campus buildings
  • Change light bulbs
  • Stocking supplies for housekeepers
  • Back-up for housekeepers
  • Complete work orders
  • Basic general maintenance and plumbing

Dependable & some flexibility in schedule. Good communication and organization skills.

Must reside on campus to rotate on-call with the other student assistants.

Must be able to use discretion and maintain confidentiality with student and faculty affairs.

Any candidate who is offered this position will be required to go through a pre-employment criminal background check as mandated by state law.

Pay Rate $9.50/hr
