Job Description

Student Media is hiring a highly motivated, forward-thinking Northern Kentucky University student to join the business team of The Northerner, the student-operated news organization at NKU. An account executive has the opportunity to:
• Develop strong skills in business, leadership and communication while working with a rapidly growing campus organization.
• Receive specialized training from media professionals and student media business leaders across the country.
• Gain hands-on experience in emerging fields of digital media business operations.
• Work with some of NKU’s most dedicated student leaders in the high-tech surroundings of Griffin Hall, home of NKU’s College of Informatics.

Primary Responsibilities

As a Student Media account executive, you will:
• Develop and maintain relationships with advertising clients.
• Create and implement new forms of advertising and other revenue-producing products that fit with the mission of Student Media.
• Set and track weekly budget goals and ensure that Student Media meets those goals.
• Track bills and collections and maintain a database that documents accounts.
• Recruit, train and motivate a business staff.


Students must be enrolled in at least six credit hours and carry a minimum GPA of 2.5. The job involves excellent written and oral communication skills and strong interpersonal skills. We prefer a working knowledge of spreadsheets and accounting procedures; knowledge of graphic design is a plus.
Any candidate who is offered this position will be required to go through a pre-employment criminal background check as mandated by state law.
